* France's new PRIME MINISTER, Mr. Lionel Jospin, has announced that his
government will not favor the privatization of large public companies in
situation of competition. However, some adaptations are still possible
he said before agreeing that the increase of competitivity for French
aerospace companies is paramount and that a consolidation is mandatory
in Europe. A statement on the government's new aerospace & defense
policy is planned for June 21. The previous government had planned to
merge AEROSPATIALE and DASSAULT AVIATION before privatizing the
resulting group as well as to privatize THOMSON-CSF.
* Moreover, the new FRENCH GOVERNMENT, main shareholder of ARIANESPACE
through CNES and state-owned AEROSOATIALE and SEP, has agreed on all

with ARIANESPACE, of Evry, France, for the launch of a future large
satellite in early 1999. This is currently planned to be the second
HS-702-type spacecraft ordered to HUGHES.
* ROLLS ROYCE PLC has sold its Canadian subsidiary BRISTOL AEROSPACE
LTD, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, to MAGELLAN AEROSPACE CORP., of Toronto,
Ontario. BRISTOL is the manufacturer of the BLACK BRANT series of
sounding rockets.
